CPA Participates Actively in ACPAA 2015 Annual Meeting & 6th IP Seminar
On 22-23 May 2015, the 2015 annual meeting and 6th IP seminar of All-China Patents Attorney Association (ACPAA) were held in Beijing. This year's ACPAA IP seminar focused on the theme of "enhancing overall service capability toward building a powerful IP country". The event was well-attended by about 450 industry practitioners and experts, including those representing the State Intellectual Property Office (SIPO), Beijing Intellectual Property Office (BIPO) and other local IP offices, patent firms, enterprises, and research institutes.
Keynote speeches for the occasion were delivered by Mr. He Hua, vice commissioner of SIPO; Mr. Han Jun, deputy director of Department of Science and Technology under Ministry of Industry and Information Technology; Mr. Zhou Xiang, presiding justice of the Supreme People's Court of China; and Mr. Yang Wu, president of ACPAA.
The seminar comprised seven breakout sessions by topics of: IP utilisation by enterprises, patent agency industry and agency building, IP right protection, latest development of patent and other IP in law and practice abroad, corporate IP strategies, and exchanges between patent examiners and patent agencies I and II.
China Patent Agent (H.K.) Ltd. (CPA) was also an attendee of the event and participated actively in several of these breakout sessions. In the "patent agency industry and agency building" session, ACPAA vice president and CPA senior counsel Mr. Li Yong made a speech on "Some Thoughts on the Development of the Patent Agency Industry", whereas CPA deputy general manager Ms. Tina Tai in a separate session shared with the attendees updates on foreign law and practice with respect to patent and other IP.
In the "IP protection" session, a moot court was conducted. After our Beijing office deputy director Mr. Wu Yuhe's briefing on the mooting, eight attorneys from CPA, along with representatives from Beijing Intellectual Property Court, ACPAA, and China Council for the Promotion of International Trade (CCPIT) effectively played the roles of the judges, the concerned parties, the counsel for the parties, and the clerks in simulating the trial of a mooted case related to a patent infringement dispute. The moot court was well-received by the attendees, who benefited from witnessing the whole process of a mock trial, which has touched upon some existent tricky points of law and legal issues in adjudication of patent cases in China.
