On 2 September 2019, the 10th Meeting of China-ASEAN Heads of Intellectual Property Offices was held in Hangzhou, China. The meeting was moderated and addressed by Mr. Shen Changyu, commissioner of China National Intellectual Property Administration (CNIPA). Also spoke during the occasion was Mr. Le Ngoc Lam, chair of ASEAN Working Group on Intellectual Property Cooperation (AWGIPC). Other attendees of the meeting included Mr. Ho Quang Trung, director of Market Integration Directorate of ASEAN Secretariat; Mr. Gan Shaoning, deputy commissioner of CNIPA; and heads of the IP authorities of ASEAN member states.

 

This meeting marked the 10th anniversary of the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding on China-ASEAN Cooperation in Intellectual Property. As noted by CNIPA commissioner Mr. Shen,  since the past decade, China and ASEAN have seen significant advancement in the field of IP, which provided strong support to the scientific, technological, economic and social development of China and ASEAN member states. 

 

The meeting reviewed the implementation of the China-ASEAN IPR cooperation plan for 2018-2019, as well as deliberated and approved the plan for 2019-2020. Both sides agreed under the 2019-2020 plan to further cooperate and work toward improvement in IP examination quality and efficiency, personnel training and exchanges. It was also agreed that next year's meeting, to be hosted by National Office of Intellectual Property of Vietnam, would be held in Da Nang, Vietnam.
