The 10th China Intellectual Property Annual Conference (CIPAC) Held in Hangzhou
The 10th China Intellectual Property Annual Conference (CIPAC) was held in Hangzhou on 2-3 September 2019. The CIPAC, formerly named as China Patent Annual Conference and China Patent Information Annual Conference respectively, reflecting its previous focus on patent-related matters, has become an all-inclusive IP event this year covering trademark, industrial design, and geographical indication (GI) as well.
The theme of this conference was "IP, Evolving with the New Era". Representatives from IP offices and organisations, IP firms, universities and research institutes, and enterprises, both from home and abroad, gathered to explore issues related to IP operation and services, rights protection, legislation, and judicial enforcement surrounding the theme. The keynote speakers included Mr. Yoshiyuki Takagi, assistant director general of World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), and Dr. Pham Cong Tac, deputy minister of the Ministry of Science and Technology of Vietnam, who spoke on "digital transformation and IP" and "IP in the new era" respectively.
Apart from keynote speeches, more than a dozen breakout sessions were conducted on a range of topics including IP operation ecosystem under economic globalisation; trademark management strategy and brand value realisation; international trade and safeguarding IP rights in overseas market; commercialised operation of geographical indications in global trade; and IP administrative adjudication system interpretation and its practice.
The CIPAC also featured exhibitor workshops, releases of IP services and products, and an IP youth roundtable.
