China & Cambodia Sign MOU on Intellectual Property Cooperation

On 21 September 2017, a memorandum of understanding (MOU) on intellectual property cooperation between the State Intellectual Property Office of China (SIPO) and the Ministry of Industry and Handicrafts of the Kingdom of Cambodia (MIH) was signed by Mr. Shen Changyu, Commissioner of SIPO, and Mr. Cham Prasidh, Cambodian Minister of Commerce and Minister of MIH, in Beijing.

According to the MOU, valid invention patents authorised by SIPO will be allowed to directly register in Cambodia and receive protection, and relevant departments of SIPO will provide MIH with services of searching and evaluation for invention patent applications. Moreover, the two sides will promote cooperation in the fields of human resources development and exchanges of experience on IP.

Prior to this, an MOU on cooperation in the field of trademarks and branding between the Ministry of Commerce of Cambodia and the State Administration for Industry and Commerce of China was signed in Phnom Penh on September 06, 2017.
