China & US Patent Practice Symposium 2016 Held in Beijing
The 2016 Symposium on China and US Patent Practice was recently held in Beijing. The event was co-hosted by the State Intellectual Property Office of China (SIPO) and the SIPO/US Bar Liaison Council (the Council). SIPO deputy commissioner He Zhimin and the Council's organizing chair Fred Koenig attended the symposium and delivered speeches.
The topics discussed at this year's symposium included IP protection and enforcement in China, examination and prosecution practice of Chinese utility model and design patent applications, latest development of patent-related legislation and juridical practice in the US, and drafting of US software patent applications.
The symposium, in its fourth year, aims at providing a forum for the Chinese IP officials and members of the Council to exchange ideas and information concerning key IP issues facing China and the US. This year's symposium was attended by over 100 representatives from the examination departments of the SIPO as well as IP firms and enterprises of the two countries.
