According to World Intellectual Property Indicators 2014 published recently by the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), global patent filings continued to see strong annual increase in 2013, driven mainly by growth in China and the US.

For trademark applications, an estimated 4.87 million class counts (the number of classes specified in the trademark applications) were filed worldwide in 2013, an increase of 7.6% from 2012.
