On 11 September 2014, the Mainland, Hong Kong SAR and Macao SAR Intellectual Property Symposium 2014 was held in Hong Kong. The event attracted close to 100 participants, including government officials and representatives from enterprises, universities, research institutes, and IP agencies.
This year's symposium focused on three themes, namely, the latest development of IP in mainland China, Hong Kong, and Macao; the role and capabilities of IP in research and development industries; and IP management, commercialisation and trading. During the symposium, officials from relevant authorities of mainland China, Hong Kong and Macao briefed on current status and development trends of IP in the three places respectively. There were also sharing of experience by guest speakers about how their research institutes and universities are benefited by the creation and exploitation of IP in the course of science and technology research or IP trading.
The symposium, launched in 2000, is an annual event co-organised by the State Intellectual Property Office of China (SIPO), Hong Kong Intellectual Property Department, and Macao Economic Services. The next symposium is scheduled to be held in mainland China in 2015.
