CPA Deputy General Manager & Shanghai Office Director Take Part in International IP Business 2018 Forum

 

On 18 September 2018, China Patent Agent (H.K.) Ltd. (CPA) deputy general manager Mr. Wu Yuhe and Shanghai Office director Mr. Xiong Yanfeng attended the International Intellectual Property Business 2018 Forum held in Beijing. The forum was jointly hosted by China Council for the Promotion of International Trade (CCPIT), China Chamber of International Commerce (CCOIC), International Chamber of Commerce (ICC), and AIPPI (The International Association for the Protection of Intellectual Property).

 

The forum, with a theme of “IP promoting global trade”, was participated by over 300 representatives from international organisations, diplomatic missions, as well as relevant government departments, enterprises, academic institutions, and IP agencies from home and abroad, discussing frontier, hot issues in the international IP field including standard-essential patents (SEPs), trade secret protection, and how artificial intelligence (AI) affects graphic user interface (GUI).

 

CPA's deputy general manager Mr. Wu and Shanghai Office director Mr. Xiong both took an active part in the forum. Mr. Wu moderated the breakout session on "Artificial Intelligence & Graphic User Interface", during which the participants made extensive exchanges of views and information on such topics as protection of GUI, specific requirements to meet in gaining GUI design patent protection in China, and the impact of AI on IP rights protection.

 

And Mr. Xiong during the session on SEPs spoke on practices related to licensing royalties of SEPs in China, explaining in detail and illustrating through typical cases the general practice in licensing royalty negotiation, types of royalty rates, and judicial determination of royalty rates.
