IAM Patent 1000 Lists CPA as Top Chinese Patent Firm & 4 CPA Senior Attorneys as Leading Professionals
The IAM Patent 1000 2017, a guide that identifies and profiles the top firms and leading professionals of the patent industry around the globe, has recently been published. China Patent Agent (H.K.) Ltd. (CPA) was ranked as a highly recommended firm in patent prosecution, and a gold firm in patent litigation and transactions in China, both being the top-tier honour in their respective categories. The guide, now in its sixth edition, was based on extensive research and interviews over five months with 1,800 attorneys at law, patent attorneys and in-house counsel in 40 key jurisdictions.
According to the publisher, a firm in the top band reflects its depth of expertise, market presence, the level of work typically engaged, as well as long-established reputation. The following captures how our firm was described in the IAM 1000 in relation to its winning of the titles:
"Multi-award winner China Patent Agent is a trailblazer within Chinese IP law and practice. With 570 staff members, including 220 patent attorneys spread across the mechanical, electrical and chemical spheres, it is a powerful force with the in-depth expertise to handle any and every patent mandate. Its robust representation of foreign entities in Chinese patent litigation is worthy of special mention … On the prosecution side, China Patent Agent goes to great lengths to ensure that its work product is of a uniformly exceptional standard; an independent quality control department which solicits input from university professors and judges keeps the firm’s practitioners on their toes."
In parallel, four CPA senior patent attorneys were listed as recommended patent professionals in China: general manager Mr. Zeng Xiangling and deputy general manager Ms. Tina Tai were in the prosecution category, and Beijing Office deputy director Mr. Wu Yuhe and Shanghai Deputy Director Mr. Xiong Yanfeng in the patent litigation and transactions category. As mentioned in IAM 1000, only those individuals identified by market sources for their exceptional skill sets and profound insights into patent matters can make it to the list.
The description of Mr. Zeng, Ms. Tai, Mr. Wu, and Mr. Xiong in the IAM 1000 in relation to the leading professional title was as follows:
"General manager Zeng is a master of the mechanical arts and a prominent figure in numerous IP associations – for example, he is vice chair of the China Intellectual Property Society and vice president of the Licensing Executives Society China."
"Tai is a worldly-wise lawyer and patent attorney who crafts watertight chemistry patents."
"Prolific IP writer and speaker Yuhe Wu also has extensive experience in the courtroom and is another staunch enforcer; with a background in pharmaceutical chemistry, the Beijing office deputy director has close ties with US and UK associates – and a keen understanding of the patent and legal systems in these jurisdictions."
"[L]egal affairs deputy manager Yanfeng Xiong is a seasoned pro in this field, with an impressive success rate."
In addition, Mr. Xiong also won the title of the World’s Leading IP Strategists in IAM Strategy 300, which identifies the individuals who are leading the way in the development and implementation of strategies that maximise the value of IP portfolios.
