CPA Attorney Speaks at ACPAA Chinese-US Industry Exchange Conference

On 27 May 2015, a conference for industry exchanges between Chinese and US patent attorneys hosted by All-China Patents Attorney Association (ACPAA) was held in Beijing. The 19-member delegation from American Intellectual Property Law Association (AIPLA) was invited by ACPAA to China for exchanges on latest IP development and practice of the two countries. The conference was opened by president of ACPAA Mr. Yang Wu and that of AIPLA Ms. Sharon A. Israel, who spoke on the current status of IP right protection in China and in the US respectively.

China Patent Agent (H.K.) Ltd. (CPA) also attended and participated actively in the event. Mr. Wu Yuhe, our Beijing office deputy director, was moderator of the conference, and Mr. Xiong Yanfeng, deputy manager of our Legislative Affairs Department, was one of the two nominated speakers representing ACPAA for the occasion. Mr. Xiong presented on the latest landscape of standard essential patents and FRAND ("fair, reasonable and non-discriminatory") licensing in China.

Other topics presented at the conference included damages for patent infringement in China, patent litigation reform of the US, and impact of America Invents Act (AIA) on US patent law. Apart from presentation by seasoned professionals from the associations, interactive exchanges through Q&A between the attendees and the speakers allowed further exploration into topics of interest in the Chinese and American IP laws, and thus a more intimate understanding of the IP system and situation of the two countries.
