CPA Attends 13th FICPI Open Forum
FICPI, the International Federation of Intellectual Property Attorneys, held its 13th Open Forum during 9-11 November 2011 in Rome of Italy.
More than 400 professionals from 50 countries and regions participated in the event. Ms Jenny Wang, senior counsel of China Patent Agent (H.K.) Ltd. (CPA) and vice president of FICPI China attended the Forum with Ms. Liu Jie, head of CPA quality control group.
The Forum of this year was conducted on a combination of plenary and panel sessions. The plenary sessions explored the issues of “privilege” (what it is, and why it should be extended to non-lawyer IP professionals) and “standards and professionalism” (conflicts of interest and ethnical walls).
Issues discussed during the panel sessions included:
- electronic disclosures as source of: prior art and infringement;
- how to run an IP practice efficiently in the e-age;
- balance between patent right and appropriate disclosure;
- rights of trademark owners relating to search engine keywords;
- Patent Prosecution Highway (PPH);
- overall functioning of trade mark system in Europe;
- how the US Patent and Trademark Office implements patent law reform.
Ms. Jenny Wang and Ms. Liu made extensive exchanges and communication with participants from global IP community during the occasion. They also leveraged the opportunity to call on CPA's clients in Italy.
