In celebration of its 125th anniversary, the International Association for the Protection of Intellectual Property (AIPPI) has held a series of events this year that climaxed with the AIPPI World Congress from 10th to 13th September 2022. AIPPI is based in Switzerland with about 8,000 members worldwide from more than 131 countries. It is the world’s leading not-for-profit association dedicated to the development and harmonisation of laws throughout the world for the protection of intellectual property.

 

This AIPPI World Congress, after two years' virtual meetings, gathered again experts from different countries and regions in San Francisco to take part in the discussion and resolution of the pending study questions, including patentability of diagnostic methods; trademarks and the internet and social media; moral rights; protection of trade secrets during litigation and other proceedings; and privileges relating to settlement negotiations.

 

The congress also featured professional development activities, among them a Unified Patent Court (UPC) boot camp with a mock trial to highlight the future framework and possible grey areas in this new judicial system, 21 panel sessions, 3 IP lunches, and 21 AIPPI cafes, interspersed with the social functions of Women in AIPPI, Young Members Forum and the Cultural Evening.

 

The AIPPI World Congress is scheduled to take place in Istanbul, Turkey next year.
