CNIPA Approves Establishment of First Batch of Foreign Patent Agencies' Resident Representative Offices in China
Following China National Intellectual Property Administration (CNIPA)'s issuance of the Administrative Measures for the Establishment of Resident Representative Offices in China by Foreign Patent Agencies ("the Measures") on 11 January 2022, the first batch of foreign patent agencies were recently authorised to set up their resident representative offices in China.
According to the notice of approval issued on 20 May 2022 by the CNIPA, the application by two French firms, namely, Levy Intellectual Property Company and Novartis Technologies Ltd., and an American firm, Northway Patent Agency Ltd., were granted, where the French firms were allowed to set up their resident representative offices in the southern Chinese city of Guangzhou, and the American firm in the eastern Chinese city of Suzhou.
