China-Singapore & China-Canada PPH Pilot Program Extended for Another Five Years
Pursuant to a joint statement of intent between the China National Intellectual Property Administration (CNIPA) and the Intellectual Property Office of Singapore (IPOS), the China-Singapore Patent Prosecution Highway (PPH) pilot program will be extended for another five years starting from 1 September 2021 until 31 August 2026. The China-Singapore PPH pilot program was initially launched on 1 September 2013, and has been extended three times before its latest termination on 31 August 2021.
On the basis of the requirements and procedures set forth in the previous agreement, the extended pilot program incorporates PPH Mottainai as an additional mode of cooperation, which enables the applicants to file PPH requests to IPOS or CNIPA using the work products concerning related patent applications filed in any office other than the two offices.
In addition to the said pilot program, the PPH pilot program between China and Canada, according to a decision jointly made by the CNIPA and the Canadian Intellectual Property Office (CIPO), will also be extended for another five years starting 1 September 2021 until 31 August 2026, with relevant requirements and procedures to submit PPH requests to the two offices remaining unchanged. The China-Canada PPH pilot program was initially launched on 1 September 2013 and has been extended twice before its latest termination on 31 August 2021.
