China's IP Statistics for First Half of 2021
Recently, the China National Intellectual Property Administration (CNIPA) released the IP statistics of China for the first six months of 2021, covering patent, trademark, geographical indication (GI), and layout design for integrated circuit (IC).
According to the statistics, during the first half of 2021, the CNIPA granted 338,563 invention patents, 1,327,128 utility model patents, and 393,100 design patents, representing an increase of 55.9%, 30.4%, and 7.91% year-on-year respectively; and 33,281 PCT international patent applications were received, of which 30,854 were filed by domestic applicants.
In terms of trademark, during the period, 3,723,720 trademarks were registered; 78,777 cases concerning trademark opposition and 200,953 cases concerning trademark review and adjudication were received, and 82,074 of the former case type were examined and 187,611 of the latter case type concluded.
For GI, during the period, the CNIPA accepted 11 applications for protection of GI products, and approved 87 GI products, 3,355 businesses for using special signs on GI products, and 254 GI trademarks for registration. As for IC layout design, 8,196 applications were received, and 7,627 certificates issued during the period.
