International Conference on the Integration of Technology and Innovation Support Centers (TISCs) into National and Institutional Strategic Framework Held in Hangzhou
On 2 September 2019, the International Conference on the Integration of the Technology and Innovation Support Centers (TISCs) into National and Institutional Strategic Framework was held in Hangzhou, China. The conference, jointly organised by China National Intellectual Property Administration (CNIPA) and the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), was the first cross-regional TISC conference ever held around the world.
CNIPA deputy director general Mr. Gan Shaoning and WIPO assistant director general Mr. Yo Takagi attended the meeting and delivered opening speeches. More than 150 participants, representing China's TISCs and local IP authorities as well as TISCs from 12 countries, namely, Algeria, Chile, Cuba, Egypt, Georgia, India, Mongolia, Morocco, the Philippines, Russia, South Africa, and Vietnam, gathered to share experience on the implementation of the TISC projects and explore the development of the TISCs network on a global basis.
At the conference, Mr. Gan and Mr. Takagi awarded licences to 10 Chinese TISCs, which were the second batch of TISCs being granted licenses since the official launch of the project in the country early this year. CNIPA planned to set up about 100 TISCs nationwide by 2021.
TISCs are cooperative projects within the framework of WIPO's worldwide development programs. They aim at providing innovators in developing countries with access to information on new technology and knowledge of industry dynamics. By the end of 2018, WIPO has established TISCs in 700-plus implementation units in over 70 countries and regions.
