9 Asian Companies Within Top 20 that Receive the Most US Patent Grants in 2018
Intellectual Property Owners Association has recently issued the "Top 300 Organizations Granted US Patents in 2018”. According to the report, 11 US companies and 9 Asian companies occupied the top 20 spots of the list that received the most US utility patents in 2018. Of the Asian companies, 3 were from Korea, 3 from Japan, 2 from mainland China, and 1 from Taiwan.
Specifically, the top 20 were: IBM (9,088 patents), Samsung Electronics (5,836), Canon (3,206), General Electric (2,769), Intel (2,728), Alphabet (2,597), LG Electronics (2,473), Taiwan Semiconductor (2,448), Microsoft (2,385), Qualcomm (2,300), Apple (2,147), Dell (2,136), Toyota (2,127), Ford (2,123), United Technologies (2,121), Amazon (2,035), Samsung Display (1,944), Sony (1,681), Huawei (1,680), and BOE (1,625).
The report was compiled from data published by the US Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO). Overall, the USPTO received 307,759 utility patent applications in 2018, representing a year-on-year decline of 3.5 percent from 318,829 in 2017.
