First Tsinghua-Columbia Annual Forum on Cyber Law Held in Tsinghua University
On 8 May 2019, the first Tsinghua-Columbia Annual Forum on Cyber Law co-launched by Tsinghua University and Columbia University was held in Tsinghua University, Beijing.
Tsinghua University Law School Professor Shen Weixing and Columbia Law School Professor Robert L. Lieff attended the forum and delivered opening speeches. In his remarks Professor Shen expressed sincere gratitude to the counterparts of Columbia University for their efforts in co-launching the forum, and indicated that Tsinghua Law School will place a special emphasis on the interdisciplinary development of law and information technology, and that the law school's collaboration with Columbia University in cyber law will focus on the area of computational law, whereas Professor Liebman noted that the forum provides a platform for studies of the Chinese and US legal systems and facilitates exchanges between the two systems.
The theme of this forum was "governance for the digital economy", which focused on the three topics of "artificial intelligence, innovation, and law", "the Internet and intellectual property", and "big data and cyber security".
The forum was participated by scholars, experts, and industry practitioners from domestic and foreign universities including Tsinghua University, Columbia University, King's College London, Peking University, Xi'an Jiaotong University, Beijing University of Posts and Telecommunications, Beijing Normal University, as well as Intellectual Property Tribunal of the Supreme People's Court of China, Alibaba Legal Research Center, and Microsoft Research Asia, who engaged in active and intense discussion of issues including artificial intelligence, data protection system, central bank digital currency, and cyber security.
