China Sets Up its First Internet Court in Hangzhou
Hangzhou Internet Court, China's first-ever internet court located in Hangzhou city of Zhejiang province, was inaugurated on 18 August 2017. The internet court conducts through a specific litigation platform (www.netcourt.gov.cn) the entire litigation process, from filing a complaint, docketing of a case, service of process, evidence adduction, hearing to publication of the judgment.
The Hangzhou Internet Court has jurisdiction over internet-related cases originally under the jurisdiction of the basic courts in Hangzhou that involve the following disputes: i) disputes over online shopping contracts, network service contracts, and small internet financial loan contracts; ii) internet copyright ownership or infringement disputes; iii) network tort liability disputes; iv) product liability disputes arising from purchases through e-commerce platform; v) disputes over domain name ownership; and vi) administrative disputes arising from internet administration.
