AIPPI 2017 World Congress Holds Briefing Session on IP System in China

 
AIPPI (the International Association for the Protection of Intellectual Property) has held its 2017 World Congress in Sydney, Australia during 13 – 17 October 2017. The topics discussed in this year's congress covered patentability of computer-implemented inventions; bad faith trademarks; protection of graphical user interfaces (GUI); geographical indications (GI); and gene patenting.
 
The congress also featured a briefing session on development of IP system in China. Mr. He Zhimin, deputy commissioner of the State Intellectual Property Office of China (SIPO), was invited to speak on the topic.
 
During the briefing, Mr. He pointed out that IP serves to spur innovation, deploy innovation resources, protect innovation outcomes, and nurture innovation culture, thus facilitating the national innovation-driven development strategy under China's new normal. He then introduced the characteristics of the Chinese IP system and major IP-related achievements in China in terms of legislation, enforcement, operation, culture fostering, and international cooperation over recent years.
 
The briefing was attended by close to 300 participants including government officials, experts and academics, attorneys, and enterprise representatives related to the field.
