SAIC Vice Minister Briefs on Trademark-Related Statistics at China Trademark Festival 2017
On 1-4 September 2017, the 2017 China Trademark Festival (CTF) hosted by China Trademark Association took place in Guilin, China. The event gathered over 1,900 participants from home and abroad, including government officials, intellectual property (IP) experts, industry practitioners, as well as representatives from IP organizations and enterprises.
The theme of the 2017 CTF was “To Protect Trademarks and Brands, and Share Innovation and Development”. Mr. Liu Junchen, vice minister of the State Administration for Industry & Commerce of China (SAIC), delivered a keynote speech during the occasion. In his speech Mr. Liu mentioned that the Chinese authorities have devoted great efforts to deepening trademark registration and management reforms, strengthening protection for trademark rights as well as promoting trademark and brand awareness among the public. He also gave an update on the latest trademark-related statistics. As he pointed out, China had valid registered trademarks of 13.45 million by June 2017; and during the first half of 2017, the Chinese Trademark Office accepted 2.27 million trademark registration applications, a year-on-year increase of 30.81%; and industry and commerce administration and market regulation departments at all levels prosecuted 13,000 cases of trademark-related offences involving a total value of RMB140 million.
This year's CTF featured a national trademark conference, a brand exposition, a China brand economy summit, and twenty-plus parallel sub-forums.
