The 2016 US-China IP Cooperation Dialogue Report Released

The 2016 US-China IP Cooperation Dialogue report has been released jointly by Intellectual Property (IP) Academy of Renmin University of China (RUC) and Global Intellectual Property Center of United States Chamber of Commerce at a press conference in Beijing. The report summarises the consensus reached during the Dialogue in 2016 in respect of the discussions on the mechanism in place for IP protection and enforcement with a shared objective of improving IP protection in the two countries.

At the conference the Dialogue experts briefed on the research results and suggestions for reforms put forward in the report, covering such issues as pharmaceutical patent linkage system, the IP appellate court, and copyright protection of live sports broadcasts. They further mentioned the topics for the 2017 Dialogue, which included pharmaceutical IP reforms, the guiding case and amicus curiae system, and next-stage development of the Chinese IP courts.

The US-China IP Cooperation Dialogue began in 2013, and meetings are convened twice annually in China and in the US. The 2016 Dialogue was co-chaired by Professor Liu Chuntian, dean of IP Academy of RUC, on the Chinese side and Mr. David Kappos, former director of the US Patent and Trademark Office, on the US side.
