National Conference on Copyright Protection in Digital Environment 2017 Convenes in Beijing
The National Conference on Copyright Protection in Digital Environment 2017 was held in Beijing on 26 April 2017, the day celebrating the 17th World Intellectual Property Day.
The event was organised by National Copyright Administration of China (NCAC). Mr. Zhou Huilin, deputy director of NCAC, addressed the conference, pointing out that the flourishing online works, their easy dissemination and convenience for trading and utilisation all meant that copyright has become an important asset of the internet industries, and while the prospect for copyright and internet industries was very optimistic, it was essential to seek innovation in contents, dissemination, institutionalisation, and management of copyrights to achieve sustained, healthy development of the industries.
During the conference, representatives from the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), relevant Chinese government departments, major news media, internet and copyright industries, academic establishments, and law firms gathered to exchange views on the theme of this year's World IP Day – "Innovation–Improving Lives".
The conference also witnessed the formation of China News Media Copyright Protection Union, which unites 10 major domestic news agencies and media websites including the People's Daily, Xinhua News Agency, and the Central People's Broadcasting Station to attain unified management and protection of news copyrights. In addition, the 2016 China Top 10 Patent Infringement and Piracy Cases as well as the 2016 Annual Report of Copyright Protection on the Internet in China were released at the conference.
