QBPC Announces 2014-2015 Best Practice IP Cases & Outstanding Protectors of Quality Brands
On 17 June 2015, Quality Brands Protection Committee (QBPC) of China Association of Enterprises with Foreign Investment (CAEFI) released the results of 2014-2015 Best Practice Cases in IP Protection, Model Cases Harmonizing Administrative and Judicial IP Enforcement, and Outstanding Protectors of Quality Brands during a press briefing in Beijing.
The event was attended by over 400 guests, including leaders of relevant Chinese authorities such as Office of the National Leading Group on the Fight Against IP Infringement and Counterfeiting, Legislative Affairs Commission of the National People's Congress (NPC), Supreme People's Court (SPC), Supreme People's Procuratorate (SPP), National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC), Ministry of Science and Technology (MOST), Ministry of Public Security (MPS), Ministry of Commerce (MOFCOM), General Administration of Customs (GACC), State Administration for Industry and Commerce (SAIC), General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine (AQSIQ), and State Intellectual Property Office (SIPO), as well as representatives from foreign embassies in China, chambers of commerce, international organisations, academic institutions, the media, domestic enterprises, and QBPC member companies.
The Best Practice Cases in IP Protection was launched by QBPC in 2002 to recognise outstanding efforts in IP right protection made by government agencies and judicial authorities at the national and local levels. This year's best practice IP cases comprised 10 criminal cases and 9 non-criminal cases. Also announced during the occasion were 3 Model Cases Harmonizing Administrative and Judicial IP Enforcement for the year. The model cases, launched in 2012, recognise administrative enforcement agencies and judicial departments who have made important contributions to harmonising of administrative and judicial IP enforcement.
This year QBPC also started the selection of Outstanding Protectors of Quality Brands. The winners of the title for its debut year included IP Division under Investigation Supervision Chamber of SPP, IP Division under Economic Crime Inspection Bureau of MPS, Division of Crackdown on Criminal Offences Involving Production & Sale of Counterfeit & Inferior Goods & Piracy under Order Control Bureau of MPS, IP Division under Policy & Regulations Department of GACC, and Enforcement Information Division under Law Enforcement Supervision Department of AQSIQ.
QBPC was set up in 2000, and is now comprised of 207 multinational member companies, most of which are subsidiaries of companies headquartered in North America, Europe and Asia .
