Shanghai Pudong Court Sets Up IP Tribunal for Free-Trade Zone
On 9 April 2015, an IP tribunal was set up in Shanghai Pilot Free-Trade Zone, China's first free-trade zone launched in September 2013. The IP tribunal is administrated by Shanghai Pudong New Area People's Court to meet the new and increasing demand for IP rights protection in the zone.
On the same day, an IP judicial protection liaison office of the Supreme People's Court of China (SPC) was also unveiled in the zone. With the liaison office, emerging or complex issues concerning IP cases of the zone may be more efficiently communicated to the SPC.
The institution of both the IP tribunal and the SPC liaison office are major steps to strengthen IP rights protection and improve business environment in the free-trade zone through advancement of judicial services.
