SIPO Publishes China's Intellectual Property Protection 2013
The State Intellectual Property Office of China (SIPO) recently published China's Intellectual Property Protection 2013.
According to the report, patent applications filed with SIPO reached 2,377,000 in 2013, representing 15.9% growth year-on-year. Among the patent applications, 825,000 were invention related, an increase of 26.3% from the previous year. As for PCT international applications, SIPO received 22,924 applications in 2013, up 15% from the previous year.
China's patent examination capacity also saw continued improvement. Substantive examination for 355,000 applications was conducted in 2013, representing an increase of 3.1% from the previous year.
For IPR enforcement, IP administrative authorities nationwide accepted 262,000 cases involving IP infringement and production and sale of counterfeit or inferior goods in 2013. Among those cases, 4,550 were transferred to judicial organs for disposal. During the year, 12,000 criminal cases involving infringement and counterfeiting were concluded by the people's courts across the country.
