China Receives 11,000 Plus PCT Patent Applications in First Half of 2014
According to data published recently by the State Intellectual Property Office of China (SIPO), in the first half of 2014, China received 11,243 international patent applications under the Patent Cooperation Treaty (PCT), representing a year-on-year increase of 20.5%. Among them, 10,283 applications, or 91.5% of the total, were filed by domestic applicants, representing an increase of 23% year-on-year.
As regards the filing volume by applicant, the top three positions were captured by Huawei Technologies, ZTE Corporation, and BOE Technology Group. Other technology-related applicants who made it to the top ten included internet companies Tencent Technology (Shenzhen) Company and Xiaomi Technology, which were ranked the fifth and the ninth respectively.
Among the 20 countries which filed PCT international applications with SIPO during the first half of the year, the US topped the list with 482 applications, followed by Japan with 94 applications. These two countries accounted for 60% of the total PCT international applications filed by foreign applicants in China during the period.
