ACPAA Convenes 2012 Annual Meeting & IP Forum
On 28-30 March 2012, All-China Patent Agents Association (ACPAA) convened its annual meeting in China Intellectual Property Training Center, Beijing. The meeting gathered more than 430 participants, including representatives from the State Intellectual Property Office (SIPO), domestic patent agencies and major enterprises. Concurrently during the session ACPAA also held its standing board meeting, board meeting, and an Intellectual Property Forum.
Mr. He Hua, Vice Commissioner of SIPO, was invited to speak at the board meeting. During his speech, Mr. He commended the association for its role and remarkable achievement in regulating the administration of patent agency industry over recent years. He also specified on the directions of development for the national patent agency industry and future tasks of the association. Mr. He’s speech was followed by ACPAA President Mr. Yang Wu’s presentation of 2011 work report and 2012 work plans for the association, and ACPAA Secretary General Ms. Li Jianrong’s financial report for fiscal year 2011.
The ACPAA IP Forum this year focused on a theme of “Developing IP Service Industry in Support of the Building of an Innovative Nation”. At the forum, SIPO Vice Commissioner Mr. Li Yugong depicted the international IP landscape whereas Mr. Zhao Yuhai, Director General of Department of High and New Technology Development and Industrialization under Ministry of Science and Technology of the PRC, reported on the current status and development trend of China’s advanced technology and industrialization.
Subsequent to the talks was the award presentation ceremony for the 2012 IP Forum Thesis Competition. Among the submissions of 191 papers, 65 were selected by the judging panel as outstanding writings, in which 5 first prizes, 10 second prizes, 20 third prizes, and 30 excellent awards were recognized and honoured.
In addition, four sub-conferences were held to further discuss respectively the topics of (i) industry development and patent agencies’ internal management; (ii) patent examination and patent commissioning; (iii) patent agencies and enterprises; and (iv) electronic patent application and Electronic Application Client System (EAC). The sub-conferences also proved to be a good channel for thesis competition winners to exchange views with other participants surrounding the themes of their writings.
