In the afternoon of 23 October 2019, a training session for the patent attorneys and engineers of China Patent Agent (H.K.) Ltd. (CPA) hosted by Beijing Patent Attorneys Association (BJPAA) was held at CPA Beijing Office. The training was attended by 200-plus colleagues from CPA's Beijing, Hong Kong, Shenzhen, and Shanghai offices in person or via teleconference.

 

The training session was moderated by CPA assistant general manager Mr. Wang Jingchao, and featured a two and a half hours' lecture by Mr. Liu Heming from the Legal Affairs Department of China National Intellectual Property Administration (CNIPA). Mr. Liu spoke on the fourth revision of the Chinese Patent Law, providing a comprehensive, in-depth analysis of the latest draft revision of the Patent Law. He first traced the development of the Chinese patent system, then examined the background, intention, and features of this revision accompanied by citation of the proposed amendments, and also discussed some hot IP issues including partial design protection and subject matters of patent protection.

 

Mr. Liu's lecture, combining specific provisions with practical experience and analysis, is definitely beneficial to our professionals' understanding and application of the Patent Law and thus provision of solid services to the clients. This is the first of BJPAA's training series for our firm of the Year 2019, which is scheduled to be followed by lectures focused on typical patent invalidation cases.
