CPA Attorneys Invited to Lecture at Peking University on Chemistry Patent Protection Strategies

Recently, China Patent Agent (H.K.) Ltd. (CPA) deputy general manager Ms. Tina Tai and Chemistry Department attorney Mr. Sun Xiuwu were invited by Office of Science and Technology Development of Peking University to deliver a lecture on patent protection for the faculty and students of the university.

The lecture was conducted at College of Chemistry and Molecular Engineering of Peking University on 28 June 2016. It attracted an audience of close to 60, made up mainly of professors, associate professors, post-doctoral research fellows, and doctoral students from the university.

The lecture focused on the theme of chemical and chemical engineering-related patent protection strategies, and was tailored to the interest and concerns of frontline scientific research personnel. The topics covered by the lecture included: the basics of patents, filing of patent applications, issues possibly encountered in the course of patent prosecution, patent search, mining for scientific research outcomes with patent values, preparing invention disclosure, assessing the patentability of a patent application, drafting patent applications for better results, ways to obtain a reasonable and optimally broad scope of patent protection, and mapping out a protection scheme for technology work through patent portfolios and deployment.

Ms. Tai and Mr. Sun's lecture combined theories with detailed case studies, and was very well-received by the audience. In particular, their sharing of practical experience in the fields over the years has effectively helped the teaching staff and students gain knowledge of the subject in an inspiring and comprehensive manner.
