CPA Attends 3rd China-Japan-Korea IP Symposium in Guangzhou, China
The 3rd China-Japan-Korea IP Symposium was held in Guangzhou, China on 17 November 2015. It was an event jointly organised by the State Intellectual Property Office of China (SIPO), Japan Patent Office (JPO), and Korean Intellectual Property Office (KIPO).
This year's symposium gathered a hundred and twenty plus industry practitioners, academics, and company executives from China, Japan and Korea. China Patent Agent (H.K.) Ltd. (CPA), represented by our assistant general manager Mr. Wang Jingchao, was also present at the event.
The keynote speech of the symposium was delivered by Mr. Shen Changyu, the commissioner of SIPO, who pointed out in his speech that the three offices of SIPO, JPO, and KIPO all occupied a place among the world's top five IP offices (IP5), and their increasing influence was evidenced by the total number of patent applications filed with them a year being more than half of the patent applications filed worldwide. Mr. Hitoshi Ito, commissioner of JPO, and Mr. Choi Donggyou, commissioner of KIPO, also spoke for the occasion, during which they briefed respectively on the latest profiles of IP development in their countries.
At the symposium, examining officials of the three offices reported on the latest development in patent examination systems of their respective countries, outcomes of work sharing, and results of comparative study regarding difference in relevant laws and examination criteria among the offices. The representatives also exchanged views on the three offices' IP policies regarding support for small and medium enterprises (SMEs) development.
On the same occasion, a new version of the website TRIPO (www. tripo.org) jointly developed by the three offices was launched. This new version of TRIPO provides contents in Chinese, Japanese, and Korean in addition to the previous sole language of English. Information available on TRIPO includes documentation on comparative studies of examination criteria of respective offices, statistics on IP application and registration, as well as links to IP-related laws and regulations, IP searches, and e-filing of respective offices.
