CPA Attends 4th Licensing Executives Society (LES) Asia Pacific Regional Conference Held in Hangzhou, China
The 4th Licensing Executives Society (LES) Asia Pacific Regional Conference was held on 15-17 October 2013 in Hangzhou, China. The event attracted 150-plus participants, including LES Asia Pacific members as well as academicians and IP experts from LES Europe and US. China Patent Agent (H.K.) Ltd. (CPA), with a delegation of seven members including general manager Mr. Li Yong, deputy general manager Ms. Tina Tai, assistant general manager and Beijing office director Mr. Kong Zhiqiang, and Beijing office deputy director Mr. Wu Yuhe, also participated in the event.
This conference, focused on the theme of "IP in Asia – Trends, Challenges and Strategies", gathered representatives from World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), judicial institutions, IP administrative authorities, corporate IP departments, law firms, and universities to give informative talks and exchange views with the participants on a variety of topics. Some of the topics covered were: IP in China; comparisons of IP law in Asia-Pacific countries; latest development of European unitary patent; challenges associated with, and strategies for, US patent litigation; IPR strategies in growing economies; IP management for automobile industry; and IP valuation and licensing.
Also conducted during the session was the final round of the Second Student Business Plan Competition in Asia Pacific. The finalist teams from China, Hong Kong SAR, Korea, Japan, and Singapore presented before the audience and a panel of judges their business plans, competing in terms of innovation and entrepreneurship how well they utilised intellectual property in support of creation and development of new products, technologies or services. The results were announced, with Hong Kong SAR team and China team claiming first and second places respectively, and prizes were awarded on the same occasion.
