CPA Actively Participates in AIPPI World Congress Activities
On 19-22 October 2024, the AIPPI (International Association for the Protection of Intellectual Property) World Congress was held in Hangzhou, China. Our firm China Patent Agent (H.K.) Ltd. (CPA), represented by a delegation led by general manager Mr. Wu Yuhe, actively participated in various activities of the congress.
This AIPPI World Congress was hosted jointly by the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade (CCPIT) and the AIPPI, and undertaken by the Hangzhou Municipal People's Government along with the China chapter of the AIPPI (AIPPI China). It was the first time that the AIPPI World Congress has been held in China since the establishment of the AIPPI 127 years ago. The congress gathered 2,259 representatives from 92 countries and regions, with 1,500-plus of them coming from overseas.
At the congress, general manager Mr. Wu and delegation members jointly and separately attended, besides the opening and closing ceremonies and welcome reception, discussion sessions and networking events including panel discussions, live court hearing of patent infringement trial, council of presidents meeting, plenary sessions, executive committee meetings, IP chiefs luncheon, women in AIPPI and young AIPPI member forums, and cultural night. Our delegation also met with clients on site to explore business expansion opportunities.
Mr. Xiong Yanfeng, deputy general manager of our firm, took part in reviewing the pending study questions and the resolutions voting procedures at the AIPPI reporter general team meeting, and made a presentation on the current landscape and practice, with citation of real cases, concerning patent, trademark and copyright protection in China during the panel session on heated IP issues in China, Japan, and Korea. And, at the AIPPI executive committee meeting held on 22 October, Mr. Xiong was elected assistant reporter general of the Bureau of the AIPPI.
At the plenary session for "Conflicts between composite trademarks including non-distinctive elements", Ms. Zhang Lei, deputy manager of our International Application Department, representing the trademark committee of AIPPI China and in the capacity of vice chairman of the committee on trademark resolution No. 290, participated in the discussion, modification and voting of the resolution for the trademark-related study question.
The congress also featured a live court hearing, in which nearly 100 overseas registered participants were arranged to view the trial of a case of dispute over infringement of invention patent rights in the courtroom of the Hangzhou Intermediate People's Court. In this event, CPA helped with material preparation and assisted in on-site service. Our firm also supported the young AIPPI member forum as a sponsor.
The next AIPPI World Congress will be held in Yokohama, Japan in 2025.
