WIPO Delegation Visit CPA Beijing Office
On the morning of 17 June 2024, the Beijing Office of our firm China Patent Agent (H.K.) Ltd. (CPA) received with great pleasure four guests from the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) including Mr. Matthias Reischle-Park, deputy director of PCT Legal and User Relations Division of the WIPO, and Mr. Bai Guangqing, senior counsellor of WIPO Office in China. CPA deputy general managers Mr. Xiong Yanfeng and Mr. Hu Gang together with CPA Beijing Office director Mr. Wen Dapeng welcomed the guests and showed them around the office.
During their visit, the WIPO delegation had a meeting with our top management and senior executives for professional exchanges and discussions. CPA deputy general manager Mr. Xiong, after conveying to the delegation hearty greetings from our general manager Mr. Wu Yuhe, introduced our firm's history, personnel composition, and office network, and in particular expounded the status of PCT applications at our firms over recent years, playing also the video clip we made recently for the commemoration of our firm's 40th anniversary.
Afterwards, Mr. Ma Yongli, manager of CPA Patent Application Department – International Filing, shared our firm and clients' feedback about using the PCT system with the delegation. Mr. Reischle-Park then briefed on the current situation of global PCT applications and recent accomplishment related to the PCT system, as well as provided outlook on its future development. He subsequently answered questions of our concern, such as those related to reasons for requesting restoration of the right of priority, sufficiency of explanations addressing the novelty assessment in international search authority's written opinions, transmittal process between the International Bureau and the receiving office for early entry of PCT application into the Chinese national phase, refund issue after voluntary withdrawal of PCT application, using AI and big data to help inventors and applicants, and status of WIPO's global identifier (GID) project.
This meeting laid a strong foundation for future cooperation and collaboration between the WIPO and our firm. CPA, in the next step, will continue to commit itself to providing high-quality intellectual property service to global innovation entities, and promoting IP development through cooperation with relevant international organisations.
