CPA Hosts IP Training for Foreign-Related Lawyers on National Talent List of Ministry of Justice
On 16 June 2023, over a hundred foreign-related lawyers on the national talent list of the Ministry of Justice visited the Beijing Office of China Patent Agent (H.K.) Ltd. (CPA) and received training hosted by CPA on foreign-related intellectual property (IP) practice. The training on foreign-related IP practice is a key module of an advanced training series organised by the Ministry of Justice and co-organised by Renmin University of China for the lawyers selected nationwide into a talent pool specially trained to handle foreign-related matters.

The training session at our firm comprised presentations and sharing by CPA general manager Mr. Wu Yuhe together with five CPA senior attorneys on the subject of foreign IP practice from different perspectives. General manager Mr. Wu's talk traced the historical development of CPA, from its inception in 1984 as one of the three earliest-established IP agencies accompanying the birth of the Patent Law of the PRC to its strong presence now as a Hong Kong-based IP firm serving clients from around the globe with a serious sense of social responsibility. As noted by Mr. Wu, CPA has witnessed and contributed to China's foreign-related IP development over nearly four decades, and will continue to support China's heading toward a powerful IP nation, by leveraging its experience to nurture the future generation of IP professionals and assist enterprises in international IP protection..jpg)
Trademark Department deputy manager Ms. Rachel Zhang's presentation, with a focus on the trademark sector, talked about the potential risks faced by enterprises in entering international markets, and expounded on trademark laws and policies as well as sharing experience in trademark practice; assistant general manager Mr. Xiong Yanfeng moderated expert discussion on patent matters, and provided expert guidance on litigation skills in patent cases; Legal Affairs Department manager Mr. Wen Dapeng depicted the historical evolution of the Chinese patent system and outlined CPA's IP legal services including representing clients in patent reexamination, invalidation proceedings and other patent cases; CPA Beijing Office director Ms. Li Yafei, with reference to CPA's Chinese patent application service, demonstrated how the firm's service capabilities are forged and maintained; Patent Application Department manager Mr. Zhao Sulin, focusing on CPA's international and foreign patent application services, explained in detail how our firm assists enterprises in exploiting foreign patents to go global and expand into international markets. The presentations were followed by an interactive discussion session between the foreign-related lawyers attending the training and our CPA speakers.
